Sorry but there are plenty of people who purchase their vehicles and maintain it to a very high standard.

The length of ownership is irrelevant to the upkeep of the vehicles maintenance.

If he wanted to go for a road trip then that is perfectly fine, there is no debating that.

But my only problem is with people with 6hp26 transmissions thinking their best course of action is to drive it all the way to Dortmund.

On a side note, did ZF not offer a rebuilt valve body? That's a serviceable item and in theory should have been replaced.

It may not be yours and its not mine but that doesnt mean he was wrong to do it. He didnt once say that this was the only option for ALL X's but it was the option he took on his X.

Also I do not believe anyone on here thinks that just because Raj took his 6hp26 to Dortmund that this is also their bes course of action, so your problem as stated is irrelevant. So you can breath easy.

ZF do not manufacture pans, it is outsourced just like their fluid.

So "pattern" German parts are pefectly acceptable. And to be honest, with the 6hp26, I would rather pay extra and purchase the metal sump pan and the normal filter that can be swapped. A common and recommended modification to do.

I don't like the idea of a plastic sump and it is common for them to leak. So it's worth paying extra to upgrade to metal.

For the fluid Febi and Meyle do perfectly fine fluid for the 6hp26. It is the correct golden colour and I wouldn't be surprised if it is the exact same stuff. Only a handful of companies would manufacture this fluid for ZF.

There is nothing wrong with purchasing the millers version either which is derived from Dexron oil but conforms to the ZF specification. I have had perfectly good success with this fluid.

Transmissions are very basic things and servicing them is even more basic. There is nothing complicated about the job. It can easily be performed in 60-90 minutes for a sump drop whilst taking care to torque up everything.

For future readers, you can perform this job with in the UK with no problem at all to the same standard as the manufacturer.

I wouldn't say you're not welcome but you have been a bit over opinionated without really reading properly my thread.

You could have simply said you felt that I had perhaps paid too much but fair play if I'm happy with that.

Instead you've just kept saying I've been ripped off and misleading others to over paying for services that can be had far cheaper.

This all from someone who makes a good living working for main dealers that are VERY happy to rip people off many times over for services that should be far cheaper. So do you tell every customer that walks through the doors at the dealerships they are being ripped off and should go somewhere else?

Cough cough, my job is to cover dealerships who aren't able to repair their BMW due to running out of ideas etc.

Usually the cars have done the rounds at independents and the owners has come to us as a last resort. They will pay a premium to have their car looked at.

I think I deserve to be paid a premium for my knowledge and expertise in repairing rare faults seen in BMWs. Don't you?
