Should I just put up with it?

Post by ITBarbie » Sat Jun 07, 2014 4:29 pm

Hi

As you may know I've recently purchased an E93 2011 with less than 10k on the clock but it's just gone back for something and I wanted some advice.

The day after I got the car I noticed a zigzag pattern on oyster leather drivers side seat cushion.  I told the dealership and they've just had it in for that and a few other bits.  In my opinion it looked like a heating element showing through or springs.

Dealer calls me to tell me workshop have looked at it and it appears to be a characteristic of the leather. I know a cow with a zig zag arse! Dealer contact said he wanted to see it before releasing car etc and calls me back to say (all be it politely) it's not that bad for a car of that age etc and could replace panel but it wouldn't match.  I said I'd look when I collected to see if it was any better after clean.

Got there today and if anything it looks more pronounced to me.  The hand over guy agreed with me when I pointed it out and I asked the dealer to call me on Monday.

This picture shows the pattern but fails to capture the fact it is very slightly raised IMO.

My query is do I press to get this sorted or am I just being fussy?

Well I would not be pleased with it!  Next thing you know the dealer will be saying...."they're all like that!"

Replace one panel ?? Doubt it, if they replace it will be the whole side bolster leather, they ain't gonna get some old girl with a needle and cotton to fix it !
I've just had my E70 seat base leather replaced under warranty, Oyster too, yes it was ever so slightly lighter but it's settling in now and you couldn't tell the difference.

The pattern is visible on this light colour leather, it's possible it wouldn't show on black leather, so it may be worth looking at similar model and age with same seats heated but in black preferably at the dealers and compare them and take pics,

I have a 1 series and will have a look at them which are heated in black and the E53 which are heated in beige and let you know.

If the pattern doesn't show on the black seats then ask the dealer why and in which case ask why should you put up with it on your leather as it's clearly an inferior product? I.e. Is it fit for purpose and merchantable quality ?

and if still under warranty in which case I would ask for it to be rectified as it appears to be faulty as shown in comparison.

Looks like some lard arse owned it before you.  This is general wear and tear but just noticeable on leather that colour.
