Best Place to wire CTEK adaptor

Now that my sadly demised 4.8is is long gone.....(hopefully being rebuilt by another forum member....) the E70 has been hijacked by my partner who does loads of very short journeys, not much good for the diesel although I will take it on a long run when I can. The 4.8 was easy to connect to a CTEK ...

Detachable tow hitch problem

Not sure if I am missing something but I am struggling with my factory fitted detachable tow hitch locking mechanism which seems jammed - won't lock into the towbar - so I found a full e70 towbar and hitch on ebay and bought it for the hitch alone....and.....SAME PROBLEM! One of the keys is in the ...

Re: Help: Which Petrol Engine ?

A few observations as a very long term 4.8is owner who also owned a 3.0 prior to that.... 1. The 3.0 might be reliable, but it is underpowered and very boring in the big X5 body. Depends what you want - petrol consumption is actually worse than the V8s as it has to work incredibly hard to power the ...

4.8is 2005 Le Mans for sale.......spares / repairs

I posted about the 4.8is tragedy in the E53 subforum. Here are the details of the car: Please read carefully. I have owned the car for the past 10 years and it has been maintained under an extended BMW warranty which I posted about many times on here - more or less everything which could be replaced ...

Long Time since I posted........my 4.8is now available

Not posted for ages partly due to struggling to login when the site changed ages ago and serious illness of a close family member.........still running my E70 which is now over the 100k mark and our lovely old 4.8is, the subject of so many posts (and much input via the BMW Extended Warranty) was ...

Re: Visit to stratstone Harrogate

Pretty poor show from the supplying dealer, I say, but then the warning signs were all there......they left the bent wheel unfixed and you had problems getting them to sort out identified faults and get the car ready for you and they spun you all sorts of yarns, but that’s the dishonest world of u ...

Re: Which X5 should I consider buying next with a limited budget

Well specced E70 with the 40d engine.  And give the car a good run down the motorway every few weeks to allow the regen.

Re: VHC at dealership

Ford may be using a cheap generic from the factors, like Eicher. Best to check. Also would not touch Kwik*hit with a bargepole, bunch of sharks, they will either deliberately or through ineptitude break something or claim all sorts of unnecessary stuff needs doing at inflated prices. Do yourself a ...

Re: Looking to purchase E70

Good luck at that budget, especially if heated comfort seats is one of your requirements!  However, hope you do find an X5 -the drive in my opinion is much more refined than a Touareg of the same age.  Lots of pitfalls with those, too, by the way, as they get older, not just X5s.

Re: Parking brake.

Mine has sometimes done that too, but the brake seems fine.  I kbow they are an expensive pain to sort out when they go wrong, though, and can render the car undriveable.

Re: VHC at dealership

The dealer you bought the car from sounds a right arrogant piece of work - sorry you are facing big bills so soon after purchase, the brakes should definitely not have been unserviceable or completely shot, and wipers should not have been a problem either - although I must say, the dealer is always ...

Re: X5(E70) and the snow .

17” will not fit an E70. The recommended winter set for the 2011 40d is 18” with 255/55R18 tyres all round as per the configurator on BMW site. I tend to leave mine on for much of the year as the fancy 21” wheels cost a small fortune for new tyres and the ride on the 18s is much softer! 19” will also ...
