Steering shake
Check the fit of the front propshaft splines into the transfer box. The spline\propshaft was too short so the splines wear and come loose or even slip. This gives noise, shaking and steering wobble especially under acceleration. It seems to reset itself when stopped. This is a well known fault, such ...

4.4 M62 serious oil leak
Finally found the problem, mainly by logic, elimination and the pictures from "X5Sport". Very many thanks.
The bottom vent pipe on the oil separator which runs to the left hand cam cover was flapping in the air with no clip on the cam cover end.
It was a bit oily around there.

4.4 M62 serious oil leak
That link was really helpful. Even with the scuttle removed it's hard to see what's in there and what might be wrong, This has to be something to do with oil separation as there isn't any thing else oily back there. Time to pull it all out. Just like the video, mine is lpg which complicates it all a ...

4.4 M62 serious oil leak
Thanks for this, all suggestions gratefully considered. There are no symptoms of failing head gasket, so unlikely, but possible if there is an oilway at the back. Far too much for crankshaft seal, but this would dump the oil into the convertor housing, and then it would come out of the bottom ...

Frozen door handles
Silicon lubricant with a straw did it for me. Remove the little oval access plug in the end of the door and with the straw give it all a good soaking. Do upwards to the outside handle too. You can also get to quite a lot through the outside handle. This not only lubricates the mechanism, but stops ...

Door won't open from inside or outside, and is closed!
I have had this too! I replaced the monkey metal handle carrier, with a genuine one. It was cracked from a bad casting. I took it back to the stealer in Coventry, but they had to check it. Fine, but they insisted that they needed the car to run diagnostics first! My expense! Not refundable! Really ...

4.4 M62 serious oil leak
This X5 ate it's timing chain tensioner. It rattled a bit, but no serious damage was done as we caught it in time. There is now a serious oil leak at the back of the engine. It's MOT ran out while being repaired and during the new MOT it dumped at least a litre of oil on the floor. The garage were ...

My wife says that I have a problem, or in fact six! I can't think what it might be. We have two E53, one 3.0i and one 4.4 on lpg. I am nearly converted 3.0i to lpg. Finish when weather permits. An F31 2.0 D Touring An E36 318i Touring with twincam engine and lpg An E34 540i Touring almost perfect ...
