Re: Fault code readers.
I have the icarsoft v2 which is a great bit of kit,it recently earned its cost diagnosing a faulty glow plug module for me and initiated the dpf regen after I fitted a new item. I also have a Carista Bluetooth item, which, for £25,i think is a absolute bargain,it came with 1 months paid subscription ...

Re: Glow plug controller
Getting to the two retaining bolts is the biggest ball ache,I removed the following, Air filter and airbox/air inlet pipe and the throttle butterfly, also the plastic coolant piece and water pipes that connects to the egr cooler, once their out of the way/movable,you will spend the next 50 minutes ...

Re: Glow plug controller
Just to conclude,it is possible to change the relay without removal of the inlet manifold.
1/4" drive set, wobble bars and lots of patience, its tucked up under the manifold but is doable, took around 2 hrs all in using common sense and a lot of small swear words.

Re: Glow plug controller
Thank you for your time to reply, appreciated.
Does the intake manifold definitely have to come off?
(2013 e70 40d)
I've read conflicting reports whether it does or not, saying that I need to find where it is first.
Many thanks people.

Glow plug controller
Had a fault code come up on my 2013 40d showing glow plug controller, this combined with a hesitant engine when first starting would lead me to think I need a new one.
Which unit/brand is recommended and how much of a pain is it to get to(i am relatively handy with spanners)
Many thanks.

Re: OBD scanner recommendations?
I've bought the icarsoft myself after having a good experience with them on my previous cars.
A great bit of kit for the money and well worth carrying in the boot.
