Bad mpg

Good news. Mpg is back up to average of 18.5 which is similar to what it was.
Bad news… MOT next week, two front cv axles being installed and a clunk from the steering column being investigated. I reckon the steering shaft uj is worn or the bushes where the column passes through the firewall are ...

Bad mpg

I've just put a new air filter in and I'm ashamed to say that the old one was almost black and dusty. I haven't changed it in years.. Halfords £6 so not bad. Hopefully the MPG will improve.

Bad mpg

I don't know. Last two times I've had tyres nothing has changed.
I even had a binding brake caliper last year which didn't affect MPG either.
Something is not right. I can feel it if you know what I mean.
I drove it today with live data stream on my diagnostic and as far as I could see everything ...

Bad mpg

My 01 4.4 since Xmas ish has had the mpg drop from 19 average for the last 10 years to 14-15 average on the same regular journeys. I’ve just replaced the engine thermostat as it was constantly running too cold which I thought was the problem but it’s still the same. It’s also had new spark plugs and ...

OK so I have the original widescreen head unit in my X5 but I'm thinkwof updating it with a Dab unit.
Can someone point me in the direction of a subtable product. I want it to look the same and not one of those stupid big ipad type things.
I've seen some on ebay for £140 but all the extras have to ...

Seat bolster refurb..

Well well. I had the four tyres fitted today. Total was £470. I cannot believe how it’s changed how the car drives. The steering is lighter, it drives in a straight line (used to pull to the left) , runs quieter and actually feels like it’s rolling whereas it felt like it was sort of dragging or ...

Seat bolster refurb..

So I took the door to bits today. It took me a while to get it open using the wire method.. anyway, nothing was broken just stuck. I replaced the handle carrier anyway and spray greased everything then put it all back together. All with a hangover.
New set of tyres being fitted on Monday. I’m having ...

Seat bolster refurb..

I have the plug kit but I won’t bother with it now as A: I’ve booked for a full set of tyres on Monday and B: I think the hole from the bolt will be too big to seal up and if I try and it doesn’t work I’m stuck with a flat tyre. At the moment it’s still holding pressure.
The heated seat burning my ...

Seat bolster refurb..

I could hear it clicking when I was driving last night but hoped it was a stone. It's one hell of a bolt - 10mm easy.
Sort of fortunately I was going to to get a new set of tyres anyway in the next few months but this has accelerated the decision.
And I've noticed that the coolant temp guage is ...

I was going to use the spare Honda too as it was frosty but I thought no I’ll take the X5. Driver door opened ok ish but before the wife had a go at yanking the passenger door off I thought I’d try it. Gently. Nope, it just went pop.
I haven’t replaced that side in the 10 years I’ve had the car but ...

Arrrggghhh……!
Never mind the seat - the chuffing passenger door handle carrier broke this morning and now the door won’t open from outside or inside. Stupid design.
Time to get the wire coat hanger out.. trouble is - it’s either going to be freezing cold or raining when I go to fix it :x

Seat bolster refurb..

I thought there were just two types. Sport seats and comfort seats.
Mine are comfort and have a fairly flat base compared to sport seats I've seen.
It may well be a one piece foam construction but I reckon some could be cut away and new foam glued in place then reshaped. It's just taking it all ...

Seat bolster refurb..

I've looked at used seats but they are all sport and not comfort seats so that's no good.
I went to an upholstery place near me the other day but it was burnt down when I got there.. Maybe I'll find another one.
It can't be that difficult to stuff a bit more foam in to firm it back up a bit. It's ...
