Looking for an E70 X5.
If I remember correctly LCI came out late summer 2010 so you would need 60 Reg onwards. LCI has more power 8 speed gearbox and bumpers and tail lights are slightly different from pre-LCI. Daytime driving lights are LED therefore same colour as xenon headlights (white) Also LCI will have “xDrive” in t ...

Engine knock - suspected big end bearing problem
Hi All, I am back again on this forum as another problem with our X5. It's just over 94k now, had timing chain replaced at 90k and now engine knocking / ticking sound appeared :'( Took it to garage and they think it's a serious problem and they would need to take engine out to confirm what it is but ...

Re: "repetitive rustling sound" - turned out to be a failing timing chain
If you had described rattling sound I suspect somebody would have suggested exploring possible timing chain or tensioner issues. Sorry but I missed the video link post. I also have not heard of this on other similar engined cars yet. Perhaps someone ran it with wrong oil top up or at ...

Re: "repetitive rustling sound" - turned out to be a failing timing chain
Got a quote - £2500k including labour and parts. They are local independent BMW and Mini specialist, not a dealer. They've done some work for me in the past - couple of oil changes and prop-shaft replacement. Also they seem to be doing complicated jobs with engine out on a regular basis, so in terms ...

Well, they listened to the engine and the video we made and are 97 percent sure it is a timing chain...

Re: "repetitive rustling sound" when start driving
Hoping it's a failed gasket not a crack.
We were away for holiday, now booked in for next week.

Any exhaust smell in the car?
Hi Riggie, thanks for pointing out to exhaust. It appears that it is indeed coming from under the engine and seems exhaust related, not chain or belt as I have feared.
No smell in the car and did not see any smoke underneath though

"repetitive rustling sound" - turned out to be a failing timing chain
Hi All, My 2011 E70 (3.0 xDrive, Feb 2011, 90k on the clock) started making a sort of "repetitive rustling sound". it appears when first start the car and goes away within first 5-10 minutes of driving, so I assume when engine / car warms up. It's is there only while driving from 1000 revs and above ...

Brake discs replacement question
I apologise if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything. Message came up to replace rear brake pads, I am on 62400miles currently and wondering how do I figure if discs need replacement too? There is nothing in I drive about disks under Vehicle information, only about pads oil etc ...
