Re: DIY Key Replacement
Well the update in case this is any use to anyone is as follows.. Was in London on a trip, I took my original key to Crescent Radio, near White Hart Lane. For £18 he replaced the micro-switches and put in a new battery, took 20-30 mins, while-u-wait. Key now working good as new again. Locks and ...

Re: DIY Key Replacement
Think I fancy the DIY option. As I have three same generation BMW’s. My dedicated laptop which has all the BMW diagnosis software installed, DIS 44/57 INPA progman etc, think I’ll add this key programmer. It’s not an expensive addition, will see if it works. And post back if it’s successful or not... ...

DIY Key Replacement
Hi guys Finally making good progress with the X5. Engine running well following timing chain and VANOS Work. Got the steering recalibrated after error messages from LEW sensor, seems to have fixed that and Westfalia towbar fitted. Next up, I only have one original key, which barely works, very ...

Re: Fitting a Westfalia Towbar
As part of the rejuvenation, I dropped the car to the bodyshop to get 17 years of slight bumps and scrapes taken out of it, last week. Whilst I fancied doing the tow-bar job myself, with that fabulous DIY, seemed sensible to let them do it, as back bumper was coming off anyway to get tidied up. The ...

Well it’s in the post... 10 litres for £90. Got 15% off with a discount code he gave me. Like you say, once a year and it’s cheaper than a tank of petrol!

Re: Thicker oil to cure tappet noise
Chatting to Tim at Opei oils. Doesn’t recommend 20w-50, that’s for old classic cars he said. I thought that’s what I had! He recommends 5w-40 Ester based oil, narrowing it down to three... 1) Fuchs Silkolene Pro S 2) Millers CFS/CFS NT+ 3) Gulf Competition Reading the descriptions, the Millers CFS NT ...

Thicker oil to cure tappet noise
Hi guys. Continuing saga of my engine timing repair. The engine is noisy with ticking from the top end, tappets / lifters. Also I’m still getting occasional codes from VANOS bank 2 (34). I was speaking with the mechanic the other day, any wisdom in putting in oil with higher viscosity than standard? ...

Re: Fitting a Westfalia Towbar
Cheers X5Sport..
Having read that document (kindly supplied by you), I am fairly sure that I have the Central 12 pin plug fitted, that’s the plug at the right side of the tailgate. So hopefully the rest of the install is there, despite not being listed in the options list.

Thanks. Yes I checked that list, and it’s not there... was this definitely an optional extra?

Fitting a Westfalia Towbar
Hi Guys, have read some excellent posts regarding fitment of towbars. Westfalia seems to be the obvious choice. I’m thinking of getting the dedicated wiring kit, to go with it. I’ve been told to check if the car has trailer prep in the options list. I have checked the VIN decode and it’s not listed. ...

Re: Just joined the X5 club. Not sure if a wise choice!
Hi all. Following getting the DIS44 working, using Expert. I was able to work out that post timing chain and guide rail change and new VANOS bank one, that bank one, was mis-timed -19.99... It was a wonder the car was running at all. Reading forums, it's apparent that its easy for the tensioner to ...
