Re: Engine turning off/stalling at any speed, without warning...
I was going to buy the Beru plugs and 2x Bosch injectors from eurocarparts - can’t seem to find the glow plug controller though. Any recommendations for a parts supplier that will do all? Or indeed, if the controller is hiding somewhere in the website..? After all the silly discounts and exchange r ...

Re: Engine turning off/stalling at any speed, without warning...
...but it should still bring up a warning IMHO to at least warn the driver! Not doing so sounds like dangerous design to me. It's a pretty terrifying experience, I can tell you. Spoke to my independent this morning and immediately he said over the phone it’d be injectors 5 and 6 getting wet. Still t ...

Re: Engine turning off/stalling at any speed, without warning...
Thanks for your comprehensive reply. I'm viewing most diagnosis points as red herrings as not many seem applicable. No issues starting so I had already discounted glow plugs, and I know how these batteries like to throw a spurious code or two when low. No issues with brake sensors either - I changed ...

Engine turning off/stalling at any speed, without warning...
On Friday, while travelling at 60mph on the A9 I felt a tiny hesitation on the engine, nothing to worry about but it was definitely a momentary blip. Later, on a separate journey it stalled at very low speed. Restarted and further 30 miles travelled without issue. Thought I’d treat it yesterday to s ...

Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
What you need to check on the different rims is the actual sidewall height as the angle variance between the two sizes will affect the rolling radius. Think of a right angle triangle with the tip uppermost. On one rim size the sidewall might be the vertical side and will have a fixed length. On the ...

Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
Non * rated perhaps but wouldnt matter. I would agree that non * rated would be fine in a square setup. No stagger means no problem, the rolling radii should be identical providing it’s the same batch of tyres. I am in Cumbria if you wanted to view . Thank you for the info Sid, but finding someone l ...

Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
So my choices are down to two. 275/315 winters as direct substitutes for summer tyres. These would be RoF Continental without * rating, OR *Pirelli 285 40 all round but are not RoF There’s no chance I would risk running a staggered set up unless they were * marked. Would always choose * over r ...

Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
...Or, simply go 285 40 20 all round on staggered 20s. This seems to be the option that’s most likely now, as I’d like to avoid (especially large) wheel spacers if possible. Do you think 285’s would be happy on the staggered 11inch rear if 315 is the norm? If this was to work, having a square setup ...

Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
...in simple summary the best winter option is BMWs 9 x 19" square set up with the compensated rear wheel offset to sit on the outer edges of the wheel arch, tyres being 255 50 19 of course. A square setup certainly sounds the most acceptable to me right now, but with 255 rear tyres, to achieve ...

Re: Winter Tyre Info and Discussion Thread ( Keep related chat here please)
Have been trying to get an OEM compatible set for my X6 for a couple of weeks now. No stock anywhere in the UK from what I can see, nor in Germany with Tyreleader(dot)co(dot)UK. Is there a general shortage of these tyres this year? So far Yokohama are all I can get, but with a BMW Warranty I need ...

Re: AGM Battery & Coding...
Thanks for everyone’s input, that’s it all sorted. Installed a Varta Silver ‘wet’ 5 year warranty battery this morning, drove down to my independent who had it coded within a few minutes. The diagnostics indicated that this was the cars first battery change, but as it was a non-AGM Bosch that was fit ...

Re: AGM Battery & Coding...
Thanks to you both :) You know, I didn’t even think to look at what it had fitted. Currently a Bosch S4 013 800A 95Ah 12v - so not an AGM then. I noticed from the Halfords website and the Tayna website, that once I input the car details, with the fact my X5 is not a stop/start model, neither site s ...

AGM Battery & Coding...
Hi all, Just picked up a 2009 E70 3.0 SD and the battery could do with replacing. Inputting the details on EuroCarParts the options are for a standard 019 or an AGM 019 - obviously a large price difference. Does my model require an AGM as google is suggesting? My local independent is happy to ...

Re: Door Handle Fix (E53)
Prices of the genuine BMW carrier still rising... Even with a 5% discount, I still got charged £100.37 by my local dealer today. That said, the original has lasted 90k miles, so if it lasts as well as that, it’s money well spent over a pattern part. Thanks to all for the ‘how to’ - something for me t ...

Re: X5 3.0i Petrol won’t start...
Many thanks for your reply. The engine is now starting, but with little in the way of a direct culprit. The battery was low so that’s not going to help, but it had somehow flooded itself too. Once jumped it took a painful amount of attempts before it eventually fired, but it’s running and starting as ...
