did'nt do a reset, not noticed any difference 127,000 miles watched a youtube video about the reset some thing a dealer would do, £££££.  it might reset the actuator?  i'm 25,000 miles on still good
i cant remember where i bought the oil, yes its exspensive

2000 to 2003 has the mechanical transfer box nv125, oil bmw part number 83 22 9 407 858 or 859 .47ltr 2004 to 2006 has xdrive transfer box atc500. oil bmw part no 83 22 0 397 244 retorque for fill and drain plug 33nm (24 lb ft) (acorrding to bentleys) i have 2006 never needed to do anything apart ...

if it is the gasket weeping i had same problem on my 2006, i purchased a meyle kit of ebay, new pan, gasket, oil filter, all new bolts around £150 you need to raise all four wheels of the ground, change the parts,refit pan, fill the pan with as much fluid as it will hold, seems like it will only ...

check the exhaust manifold mine sounded like a turbo whistle, turned out to be a cracked exhaust manifold (common on a 3.0d, try your rubber intercooler pipes for splits also i renewed the pipe seals (cheapest seals i found were from a bmw dealer)

i had similar problem, grabbing when turning left more than right, in a straight line ok, with 4x4 light on turned out to be the abs sensor in the near side front hub, i thought the diff was going to snap it was so bad, 2006 e53

the vacuum tank on the offside wing split on my 2006 3.0d, i removed the tank connected the two pipes together never noticed any change at all, ckeck the egr valve

i had two bearings, one off ebay and another from euro car parts, both had no exciter ring built in apparently (they must have been made in china), i ended up taking it to main dealer as i could'nt fathom out what was happening { abs light and a dsc light on). so i purchased a bearing from my local ...

front wheel?, bearing must go in the right way around as its fitted with an exciter ring to activate the abs, be aware of cheap bearings of fleabay etc

undo the intercooler pipe that comes from the turbo into the intercooler just pull the wire clip half way off the pipe connecter, pull the pipe of the intercooler see if there any oil running out?  20 min job

abs and 4x4 came on my 2006 3.0d replaced the near side from wheel sensor,  all ok now

ive had a recon turbo and new manifold a few weeks ago, it also makes this noise, ive had the intake pipe of the turbo cant se any markes/scoring where the compresser wheel may be catching , ive changed all the seals just previous to having the new turbo, but i didnt have the intercooler pressure ...

sounds like a universal joint, center bush or cv joint, for a piece of mind drop the rear diff oil, check the oil with a magnet see if there any metal bits, might be a diff bearing but i doubt this
