Thanks for this, I think my engine might be a bit different to the one pictured. I've got a coolant inlet/outlet right under the intake ports and the oil filter and dipstick are in different positions.
In that location, I just do have a bunch of cables and connectors, but no controller!

Re: X3 2.0D late 2006 cold start issue (glow plugs replaced)
Bought a newer scanner and hey presto a bunch of previously unseen faults appear, including the glow plug relay which at least explains the problem.
Looks a pita job due to location.

Re: Normal operating temps on dash indicator
I bought a c110 scanner and did some checks of the live data, coolant never seems to get over 65C. Bought a replacement main stat and EGR stat. Done the EGR one as that was easy, but need to go back and do the main one as it hasn't made any difference. Access looks a bit tricky, think fan will have ...

Normal operating temps on dash indicator
I've noticed that my coolant dash indicator never gets to "12'o clock" and only gets as high as the photo below after 30 mins to 1 hour of driving. I'm guessing that's not normal? Coolant level is spot on and no OBD faults. Coolant temperature sensor? I'm having some cold start issues, and can't see ...

Sounds like a problem i had some time ago and it was a fuel pipe seal letting air in the system over night.

Interesting, do you know whereabouts the leak was?

Control unit/ relay will generate an error.

Ok, thanks, maybe I can rule that one out then. Do you know if fuel pump/pressure issues would generate an error?

Re: E83 Rear Washer
[quote="LeMansBlue330d"] I have a 2004 X3 and recently the rear wash wipe is not working properly. The wiper moves, but pressing the wash/water stalk I can hear the water pump from the front of the engine supposedly coming from the wash reservoir, but no water comes out at the rear. The front wash ...

X3 2.0D late 2006 cold start issue (glow plugs replaced)
Hi, I've inherited the good wife's e83, having sold on my 4.2L V8 mid-life crisis, and with it some cold start issues. Basically, on cold start it takes a few attempts to get going. It appears to crank and start ok but quickly cuts out after a second or so. I thought it was just old glow plugs ...
