Re: Burning oil - Heavy blue smoke - Please help
Based upon the advice I was brave and decieded to take the vehicle for a good run since the breather change as in the last attempt I must admit I didnt let the car warm fully. Firstly I checked the oil level and this was fine. There was alot of smoke (blue) once I got going and once the engine was ...

Re: Burning oil - Heavy blue smoke - Please help
Turks, thanks for the advice on the run and AW8 big thanks on the list on BMW garages, I found one on the list which is local and have had good reviews. Excellent. If the run doesnt burn off the excess oil then I'm going to book it it, fingers crossed its nothing major but will update this thread as ...

Re: Burning oil - Heavy blue smoke - Please help
Thanks, x555, Once I changed the filter I started the car, let it warm up and then done less than half a mile drive. I was most likely expecting instant results without the vehicle even being warm....I suspect the excess oil would still remain in which that whats was being burnt off but in the case ...

Re: Burning oil - Heavy blue smoke - Please help
Someone has suggested I check the plastic pipe that goes into the EGR valve. This could be blocked or heavily deposited with oil. Is this worth seeing? I'm in denial its rings..maybe due to the cost :-( but I may have to get a compression test as suggested by J_K this weekend. Just one thought that ...

Re: Burning oil - Heavy blue smoke - Please help
Turks, thats true, the car wasnt fully warm, I was worried I would do more damage to the engine. It was running for around 20mins, drove it up the road and back (do have to say the whole road was full of smoke). I thought that its still has an issue. The oil level is fine when checked, exactly where ...

Re: CHANGING 3.0d breather assembly
x555, managed to change the breather valve with your instructions. Thanks
Good news is that there is no oil coming out of the dipstick but still currently having heavy blue smoke when driving issue which there is a post on-going on.

Re: Burning oil - Heavy blue smoke - Please help
Changed the breather earlier today, good news is that the oil is not coming out of the dipstick. Bad news is the car is still smoking like crazy. Went for a quick run, looked behind me and it's blue smoke Everywhere. J_K your suspicion of rings could be likely, as it smokes more under load. How can ...

Re: Burning oil - Heavy blue smoke - Please help
Thanks J_K, The oil level is fine when cold, where I woud expect it to be. I'm going to give the breather a bash tonight with instructions from x555. Looks straight forwards and hopefully does the job. If it is clogged, once changed I suppose I would have to let it run for a while to burn off any ...

Re: CHANGING 3.0d breather assembly
x555 your a legend, I take it the two 13mm bolts are on either side, one near the wash fluid and the other which holds the positive battery cable and then should slide out? I couldnt help notice small bolts further down the back which tighten upwards. I take it I dont even need to touch ...

Re: CHANGING 3.0d breather assembly
I was giving this an attempt yesterday but having difficulty removing the cover in which the air filter sits. There is around 5 bolts that hold this down, the one that is causing an issue is the one at the back hidden further down. Any chance you can assist on what I should be doing to get this off ...

Hi, I purchased a 2002 3.0D Sport X5 in Decemeber but since the snow its burning oil and can see a fog of blue smoke behind me. The car idles fine, when reved the engine sounds fine, no loss of power however upon rev a smoke screen of blue smoke is coming out of the exhaust. I also took the dipstick ...
