Re: BMW sat nav upgrade to aftermarket research
Argh, the problems continue. Trying to use a connects2 fascia adaptor and nothing fits?! Photos attached, the main fascia trim is loose in the hole and doesn't click into anything? Anyone experienced this? http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160925/7022f5ce2ed8d99e7f08b0e7c10c5da6.jpg http://uploads ...

Re: BMW sat nav upgrade to aftermarket research
Evening yet again chaps. Got the radio kit and finally got round to running the wiring through yesterday. I've tested the aftermarket radio to make sure the loom was ok and there is a high pitch noise from the speakers as soon as the head unit comes on, which raises pitch with the engine revs as ...

Re: BMW sat nav upgrade to aftermarket research
Does anyone know if E39 Fascias will fit E53's? The aftermarket fascias look much more OE for E39's than E53 options!

Re: E53 Speedo cluster / Air Con
Sounds like he's already tested the feed to the clutch. May or may not be helpful, but coming from a Ford dealership, yes you can buy the clutch separately and then shim it correctly onto the old compressor, if you can do this in place or not is anyones guess, I'd imagine not, plus the fact you ...

Re: BMW sat nav upgrade to aftermarket research
Hi Nick, thanks for the information. From what I've read, your not going to get your MPG etc working, sorry to inform you! Was your fitting kit around £125? Also, anyone recommend OEM looking fascia adaptors, only ones I can find say they're for E46? Spent the day detailing the exterior of the car ...

BMW sat nav upgrade to aftermarket research
The saga continues. Spoke to a chap from a reputable Audio company, he basically explained the wiring has to be extended from the boot to the front, this kit 'supposedly' bypasses the cars amplifiers as well. Anyone more certain with this bit of information? Anyway, for anyone is the same situation ...

Re: BMW sat nav upgrade to aftermarket research
Started doing research into wiring adaptors for the head unit itself and I can't find any for the OE nav unit, even messaged connects2 and they said they don't supply any kits for these.. How can this be that complicated?
are you going to do you own install ?
Yes I'd be doing the work myself, mechanic by trade (for ford) and have fitted several systems before, just got to learn and understand bmw's system they use before poking and pulling bits!

Re: BMW sat nav upgrade to aftermarket research
Thanks for the replies and welcome. Is the radio unit you mention (BM54), required for a new radio (after market) or is this basically a radio module which sends the signal to, in theory just a monitor up front (I'm a ford mechanic and the new range of fords are like this). Yes I wasn't keen on the ...
