Tyre wear
Just thought I’d put up some pics of the wear after 33k miles on the Goodyear f1 tyres on 22" rims. I now have the original wheels fitted and am amazed at the difference in ride quality. Or perhaps how much my back has deteriorated in the last 10 years. I’ll probably sell the 22’s as with the ...

DSP
It seems like my DSP has packed up. Sat nav works fine as does the radio (obviously no sound) just the wavey lines of the music. Used ones seem quite pricey bearing in mind they are of similar age. Checked I have voltage going to the amp and the white trigger wire has voltage when the radio is ...

Coolant leaks
They arrived today, that’s quite quick for stuff from the USA. Just need to find a good day to fit them and sort a weep on the thermostat housing.

Coolant leaks
Well, I’ve sent for them anyway all made in Viton. £28 so we’ll see what effect they have. I’m into rubber atm just sent for a set of seals for the single vanos on the Alpina. With a bit of research I found that the cam locking kit and crank locking tool from when I did the chains on the 4.6 all fit ...

Coolant leaks
Has anyone ever bought the o ring kit from USA with complete set of o rings for all the coolant pipes. About £30 with post. Way cheaper than buying complete pipes. I have various weeps especially round the g/b thermostat and header tank. Very minor (cup full of coolant per fortnight) but very ...

E53 X5 Accelera Iota Tyres - any good??
I’ve been running 22" wheels on my 2002 4.6 for nearly 10 years. The last set of tyres I bought over a 2 month period (financial constraints) I bought a set of accelera for the front and then discovered they didn’t do the 315 size for the back so bought Goodyear f1. I know you shouldn’t mix but it ...

Replace Steering Angle Sensor
Watched a utube video No mention of doing anything before changing the sensor. They used a Foxwell scanner and recalibrated after fitting it seemed a very simple straightforward procedure.

Replacement head unit
Interesting what you say about the DAB my x5 reception isn’t the greatest and yet the one fitted to the b3 is brilliant I suspect I didn’t take the paint of the A pillar where the earth connection sticks to. Must look sometime. Problem is the CarPlay is so good I just listen to that. I only fiddle ...

Replacement head unit
I have one of them big stupid (9") screens in mine. They are more difficult to fit if you have DSP, only in that you have to run a cable from the head unit to the boot area. As I didn’t have a reverse camera with the original head unit I had to run a cable to the rear as well, any camera will do I ...

2006 transfer case transfailsafe
Unfortunately I can’t really offer any advice on changing one as I haven’t had a problem on my 2002 and nearly 180k. Hopefully my lack of experience will continue. If I have to check live data I can put my diagnostics on record and then drive, it covers most problems and shows if something drops out ...

2006 transfer case transfailsafe
A vehicle’s steering angle sensor (SAS) is used to measure the angle of the steering wheel and the speed at which it is being turned. The signal is predominantly used by the ABS system as part of its stability control function but also by other systems such as ride level control and adaptive front ...

Good news, keep the faith and help it along the way by using the correct BMW marked tyres and thread depth within I think 2mm of each other to stop windup. Others know this x drive transfer case better than me. As for BMW changing the g/b oil and filter plus diagnostic I dread to think what that ...

2006 transfer case transfailsafe
The fact you’ve done 10km without issue and presumably the gears changed ok suggests the fault is electrical. Maybe even fixed now. I know from experience it takes quite a few miles to get your confidence back and stop watching for a light to appear. You can check the steering angle sensor with the ...

2006 transfer case transfailsafe
Don’t automatically rule out ABS faults because there are no fault codes. Check the wheel speed sensors on diagnostics ie drive the vehicle while the diagnostics are plugged in and make sure they all read the same speed. Don’t discount the ABS module which was a notorious weak spot on the e53 and ...

Brakes
I said I’d put up some pics but I’m not actually sure what I’m seeing. It seem to have failed where it connects to the metal brake pipe. I’m not sure which one of those is the one that failed as both look pretty similar. Perhaps it’s the one with the shorter internal pipe.
