Re: 4.4 gearbox issue - ZF box?
Ok, thanks for that. It gives me chance to price up replacement options now.

4.4 gearbox issue - ZF box?
Hi, Would anyone know if the gearbox in a 2000 4.4 is likely to be the ZF box? I've tried to get underneath but the car is at the side of road and a bit dodgy to be lying around. The reason being is that it's in fail safe mode and left me with 5th only. I've had it scanned for codes of which at ...

Re: Rusty storage compartment
There will be many owners with well maintained X5's with bodywork in otherwise good condition who will likely find this issue at some point. The access isn't too bad with bumper off although I didn't drop the exhausts but would do if I welded the same area again. The passenger side is more tricky as ...

Re: Rusty storage compartment
Hi, I discovered the exact same issue with my X5 a few weeks ago. The corrosion is definately caused by mud trapped between the heat shields and the mounting bolts attached to the well bases and corroding from outside inwards. A huge design error and I'm surprised it's not more well known. I found ...

Re: V8 4.4 normal running temp range?
Ok, thanks, so it seems like it's running at the temperature it should be then.
Maybe the aux fan is not misbehaving after all as the air con still runs ice cold at tick over even with engine over 110 degrees.

V8 4.4 normal running temp range?
Hi, The viscous fan has failed on my x5 in the locked up position which lead me to look at how it's all running on the cooling side. Now looking closely I've since found even with the fan locked up the 'normal' temperature range is at between 103-109 degrees according to the hidden computer display ...

Re: V8 4.4 p1158/60 codes, anyone had similar and cured please?
Thanks for your replys gents. I think I shall try to get to the back of the engine for a proper look at breather pipes when weather and time allows and also have a go at cleaning the maf. As the engine appears to drive fine wether light on or off I don't suspect anything major looming and so might ...

V8 4.4 p1158/60 codes, anyone had similar and cured please?
Hi, I have recently bought a late 2000 4.4 X5 with 139k miles which has an issue with the engine management light coming on with codes 1158 and 1160. I knew about the light issue as I bought the car off a family member who in turn had bought the car from my boss, so I have known the car and how it's ...
