Re: Winter/All Season Tyre Help Please
Have you tried changing to Traction mode, instead of Normal? In Normal, wheelspin reduces power to the wheels, and eventually you will grind to a halt. Many years ago I got caught out in a snowstorm in an e39. Had 3 or 4 attempts to get up a hill in 3" of fresh snow, then remembered to switch off ...

Re: Non Run Flat Tyres?
I'm quite happy with the 18" Pirelli RFT on my f25 30D. Quite comfortable ride and no tramlining, unlike the previous e61 520d, which I did change to non RF, and made it a totally different car.

Re: X3 vs X5 - quick impressions
Can't let this one go without putting the other side. I changed my 520d e61 about a year ago for an x3 f25 30d. The best car I have ever owned, which includes 3 5 series, (still got an e39) Jags, Jensens, and 30 or so others. It is quiet, comfortable, even with RFT which the 520d wasn't, economical ...

Re: Hidden menu question.
I can only add that it worked on my e61, and it works on my f25. You do have to get the timing and sequence exactly right otherwise it doesn't work. Logic would suggest that if you have a 0 in the number that is what you add.

Re: Stuck retractable towbar
Stupid question perhaps, but are you sure it is really stuck? Some time ago mine was stuck out, but after getting home, switching evrtything off for an hour or two, I tried again, and it's been OK ever since. I think something gets out of sequence, and needs a rest and a reset.

Re: Cycling
Amusing really to think that bikes are using disk brakes. In my cycling days, which is more than half a century ago, what would you call the braking system, where you had a a round metal thing with a tyre round the outside in contact with the road, and two pads that were squeezed onto the sides of ...

Re: Door Sunshades
I have towed glider trailer for many years in many cars, including e39 530d's, e61 520d, and now x3 30d. The only thing added if not already on the car was the towbar, and never had the slightest trouble.
ps. The x3 has sunblinds, I will try them when we get some sun.

Re: Panoramic roof - how bad is it?
I have the pano roof which is great. I also wondered about reliability, but decided to go with it, even if you don't open it, you have the light. Another thought, we don't worry about windows leaking, so why worry about the roof.

Re: Pirelli Run flat tyres ? 225/45 R 18 91V
My x3 has Pirelli RF, and I don't think that I shall change to NRF, as I did with my e61. That change made a tremendous difference to ride and handling, and 18% more mpg. However quite happy with RF on this car, and of course there is no where to stow a spare.

Re: Wanting a Navigation System / iDrive for X1
A friend just fitted a rear view camera to his Subaru. Don't know the make, but it comes with a mirror that clips over your RVM. When he showed it to me, in sunlight it was impossible to see the picture, and was very small.

Re: locked my keys in the boot! any tricks on getting in to my x5
I can confirm the phone trick does work on some vehicles. I tried it out of curiosity some years ago, however I can't remember if it worked on the BMW and not on the Peugeot, or vice versa. Will have to try it on the x3.

Re: High Beam Assist 5AC
Make sure the sensor (camera) and the windscreen in front of it are clean, though it is supposed to be sensitive enough to pick up lights at 1000m. It is obvious when it operates from the high beam indicator going off and on. It only works though when auto lights are selected as well.

Re: X1 2012 Heater Problem
Had a look at the 2012 x1 manual. My guess is that it is designed so that you can only get cool air out of those vents.
