Quick update. New motor hasn't arrived yet, but the wife took the car to be washed and it started working again (including the wash function). I'm going to see how it goes before doing any more work on it - the motor may soon been on eBay!

Are you sure it's not a faulty sensor?  We had issues a couple of years ago with the sensors. Turns out they had been switched around in the bumper so there was a faulty sensor, just not where the error said it was.

I've tried swapping our sensors too, but I have a nagging suspicion it's one of them

I was wondering whether you ever managed to solve this problem.  Our E83 has been detecting phantom objects at the from of the car.  Having replaced the suspected faulty sensor, it is still doing it.

Was it the PDC unit in the end?
