Re: 4x4 light
Have you changed your battery or got it up to 12V+ , 11V is way to low...should be 14V+ when running... The 4x4 light appeared around the same time the starter motor began to fail, which required me to attempt to start the car several times before it started - this lead to a couple of battery ...

4x4 light
Hi XDrivers, Apologies if this is a repeat post, I’ve done a few searches on here and using Google, but I’ve not managed to resolve my specific issue… Recently the 4x4 light illuminated on my dashboard, fixed and in yellow. No other lights are illuminated and the car drives completely fine. I had the ...

Re: Starter motor issue?
Go into the hidden menu on instrument cluster and check battery voltage. Number 7 in menu is battery voltage. I've just had a look. My battery is 10.9V. Which feels low. I'd expect it to be more like 11.5-12.0V. In case anyone stumbles across this thread, to avoid confusion, voltage is Test Number ...

Re: Starter motor issue?
Just to provide bit of an update on this / a further issue. I don’t use my X5 a lot, so I haven’t yet attempted fixed the starting issue. I drove the car yesterday morning, it started on the 3rd/4th attempt. I parked the car for around 8 hours. I got back in the evening, it started on the 3rd/4th att ...

Starter motor issue?
Evening all, My 2005 3.0d E53 X5 has been struggling to start over the last 6 months or so. The issue started pretty infrequently, every once in a while, probably five or six times a year, I would go to start the car, the starter motor would make a loud spinning sound and nothing would happen. It ...

Re: Fault scanner / change car settings
Thanks all. [quote="X5Sport"] You might also want to look at the Carly App and wireless dongle. Plugs into the OBD2 port and allows you to do more than scanner 1.4.0 (written for XP and getting very long in the tooth now) does plus recoding certain functions. Scanner 1.4.0 can be made to work with ...

Fault scanner / change car settings
I'm sure this has been covered many times but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer, if anyone has any links to threads or websites then please post them. I'm trying to source a BMW scanner or my 2005 E53 X5, which I can use to view fault codes, reset them, and also change vehicle settings ...

Re: “Fuel Inject.System” / limp mode issue.
Ah OK. Thanks again. The coolant seemed to be normal. So that can be ruled out. However, the oil has dropped! I have just checked it now and found the level to be just above the 'min' line. I am currently working away until next week, so for the time being I am going to replenish the oil, but it ...

Re: “Fuel Inject.System” / limp mode issue.
I checked the coolant level and the bobble sits slightly proud of the neck, maybe only by a few mm. I couldn’t see any min/max indicators on the bobble but from looking online, some protrude a good few inches so mine could be low? Out of interest, how would low coolant relate to the smoke? Also, the ...

Re: “Fuel Inject.System” / limp mode issue.
I have just got home. Once the car cools I will check the coolant. Thanks again for your advice.

Re: “Fuel Inject.System” / limp mode issue.
More smoke... I was driving to work this morning and after 4-5 minutes, as I slowed to approach a roundabout, I noticed a thick grey/white smoke pluming from each side of the engine. It looked to be coming from the top of the wheel arch area on both sides. I continued to drive and by the time I got ...

One of my friends is a sprayer, and has kindly sprayed the rear boot plinth and BMW badge backplate to match the rest of the car.
