Guys cheers for the input. Phil - that is exactly what happens with mine, little oil on first dip then 5-10 mins later all is good and back to the top mark. Sounds like this is 'normal' and just the time it takes for the oil to return to the sump from all the oil galleries. The oil pressure warning ...

Thanks - did it ever tell you to check the level of the oil when it only had 6l in the engine?? it told me to check the oil pressure but then the dipstick showed full!! Crazy..

All Any thoughts welcome on this - what is the 'normal' expected oil consumtion on a 3.0d, 2005 with 52k.... Had the car serviced at a BM dealer in March and this morning it pinged at me to check the oil level after an 11 mile drive to work. checked the level and only the tip of the dipstick was wet ...

Too be fair it was lowered to the floor and stuck right on my arse as i over cooked it through the bend at the top of the hill just be sure i got there before him!
Shame you cant drop the self leveling suspension to access mode for high speed corners......

Did manage to piss off a lad in a kev'd up mk 2 Golf GTi by totally out dragging him up a hill - got to love that 3.0 grunt, look on his face as my bus sailed past just as the two lanes came back to one on a crawler lane was classic!

Guys - thanks muchly for the advice, will try the reset in the morning and see how the drive to work goes!! Any idea why it does this.....was jumping from about 2000 rpm to 4000 after the shift and I was sat there saying 'what are you doing that for!!' as if talking to the steering wheel would help ...

Advice please - have a new (to me) 05 X5 3.0d, did a long drive today to the west country and the gearbox started downshifting on hills when under braking - seemd to be really jerking on the shift and was then holding the low gear and not changing back up . The downshift happend just as I touched ...

I had a problem with my 05 plate 3.0 D last month - starter motor was putting an exessive drain on the battery, I only do a short trip into work and back and it did not have enough time to charge back up - made even worse in the cold weather. Worth checking the drain on cranking as the new starter ...

Thanks for this - my 05 model is in with my local dealer this weekend with the same problem, they have said the starter motor needed changing then decided it was the battery, now they have gone back to thinking it is the starter motor....might solve it one day.....lucky it is all covered by used car ...
