Re: Tow-bar

There's an amazingly detailed guide to fitting the Westfalia tow bar on here if you search for it.

Mine is a Sport and the Westfalia one fitted without any cutting.

Best place to get glow plugs and controller?

After the battery issues I had last winter, I have the fault codes read, and 5 glow plugs are coming up with faults codes. Going to change all 6 and the controller, and do it myself, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations where is best to get them from, what makes are recommends and a ...

Re: RE: Could a tuning chip produce increased emissions fault light

If you got it from a BMW main dealership in Sheffield, then if it were me, I'd look to get my money back as they sold me a modified vehicle as stock, both voiding my insurance in the event of an accident, and warranty. I'm guessing even if reverted to stock map you'd still struggle to get anyone to ...

Re: Luggage Storage ideas?

Have you got a towbar? I've got a Thule Easybase, basically a tower mounted bike rack without tracks for the bikes. Carries up to 50kg, although it holds my weight, so thats a conservative max weight. RRP is around £200, but can be found for about £150, and a kit to use as bike carrier is also a ...

Re: Is anyone concerned about going deisel ?

I never looked at petrol models when I bought my E53 two years ago. I do sometimes think it would have been nice to have a V8, the 3.0D has averaged 26.6mpg since I've owned it as I walk to work and my wife is currently at home looking after 3 young kids, so no commuting miles. I think diesel has a ...

Re: This has got me seriously thinking-should i sell or keep the E53 X5 ???

I've had my 56 reg 3.0D for two years now. hit the 100k mark yesterday, having done about 12K since I bought it. I walk to work, and my wife looks after the 3 young kids, so it only does local miles, so doesn't get as many non local miles as it really needs. Only thing I've had to replace is the ...

Re: Map on Satnav Screen
Your version was released in September 2006 so unless updated is as built. Many owners never bothered, or even knew the firmware needed updating, and many Dealers didn't bother unless an issue was found. If I remember correctly, V31 appeared in about early 2008 as BMW support ...
I believe I have V32 firmware on a spare disk. I bought a bloody expensive OEM disk from e-bay last year... and for some (marvelous) reason they sent me 2 disks sets.. Re: Map on Satnav Screen
The Mk4 fitted to the E53 was not the best example of a Nav system!  It could not even work with UK postcodes for many years.

Fitting an OEM one now would cost more than the car is worth!
It can be made to work with UK postcodes? How?
