Yes I sometimes use this method too.  The actual PDC seems to be more hassle than it is worth.

Research seems to show quite a of X5s with gearbox issues which is quite shocking for a prestige brand really.

I've driven 20 year old 200k cars (on original autoboxes) that are smoother than the X5.

Yeah it is the ball joints,  not a big job at least.

Of course I did buy mine last year so it is probably worth about 50 pence now as all cars depreciate..... I'm sure you can get a decent one for 6k, but my belief is all used cars will have some kind of issue crop up sooner or later and on an X5 the parts / labour isn't cheap. Tyres £150 a corner, ...
