Re: High Gloss door / window trim polished clean - great results!
Hi, Its just the standard G3 compound as far as I'm aware, nothing special. See photos below. However... 2.5 years on from me polishing the trims to perfection the horrible tarnishing is back I'm afraid - seems its not a permanent fix afterall :( It's time I polish it again - a job for the summer ...

Re: Steering Column Knocking (Not Rack)
Thanks for the suggestion but its not the steering wheel itself that's loose - its further down the column than that.
It easiest to feel the play from inside the engine bay when grasping the steering column shaft above the universal joint.

Steering Column Knocking (Not Rack)
Hello, I have a very irritating knocking noise that seemed to develop over night. I've checked all suspension bushes and they seem fine. However I believe I've traced it to the steering column itself - but not where I'd expect.... There's a large "double steering joint" (universal joint) behind a ...

WANTED; Bluetooth Module & Arm Rest Button
Hi folks, I'm looking for two OEM Bluetooth phone components as illustrated in the photo. Basically its the phone module that's mounted in the boot near the CD changer and the tray under the front arm rest with the mobile pairing button. If anyone has upgraded their system to an aftermarket option ...

Re: Anyone selling genuine BMW X5 E53 mats
I was after a set for my X5 a while a go too. Brand new Genuine floor mats are crazy money, although they are good. I gave these a go and can thoroughly recommend them (I have no connection to these guys). They're a well respected supplier. eBay item number 121830883309 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm ...

Radiator Coolant Expansion Tank Replacement
My 3.0i E53 has just past 100k so time to get the radiator coolant expansion bottle changed before it lets me down at the most inconvenient moment possible. I couldn't find a detailed write up on this specific task so as I take so much from this forum I thought it's about time I put more into it ...

Re: Heated Front Seats - Retrofit Problem
Ian,
The retro fit was just plug and play - no complications at all.
My previous E39 had heated seats and I wasn't keen on doing without them. I use them all the time at the moment, well worth the effort.

Re: Switched 12V Power Feed Options
As the OP I thought I'd add a quick update in case this thread is useful to anyone else looking for a switched power source behind the dash. I read in other threads that there are unused relay points in the boot that can be used for a 12v feed - I managed to find a similar unused relay slot on the ...

Re: Switched 12V Power Feed Options
They are all unswitched. You'll need to drop the front fuse board and find a switched point, or do the same in the rear.
But the fuse box isn't like a traditional fuse box with access to each fuse holder from the rear. Its like a distribution box and is a sealed unit. If I ...

Re: Switched 12V Power Feed Options
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221754049720
Looks like a good idea in theory, but would it work with the type of fuse box the E53 uses?

Re: Switched 12V Power Feed Options
On the E53 diesel, there is the Jump-Start location on the passenger side of the engine bay fire-wall, Maybe you could tap off that (incl a fuse) & feed power thru the bulkhead thru an existing cable grommet ? Just a thought........ & there may even be a substantial ...

Re: E53/2001 4.4 sport with 4.6 additions.
You mentioned it has a face lift steering wheel despite being a pre face lift car. Can the face lift steering wheel be retro fitted to a pre face lift model then??? That's interesting - I assume its a straight swap and there are no errors on the dash due to a different type of airbag being fitted in ...
