Re: 2007 E70 Rear brake pad life

Just replaced the rear pads on mine today (feb 2010) and after resetting the service mileage now shows 31k.

Re: New gear change behaviour when cold

Thanks folks. I did wonder if it was summat like that. I've probably only recently spotted it because my commute routes have just changed and tends to show the behaviour more obviously than before.

New gear change behaviour when cold

Well, not sure if this is new or not but I've noticed just recently that when I set off from cold on my journey home the car seems to upshift with no discernible change in engine revs. I'd describe it as though the car wants to stay at 2000rpm with each gear change not really dropping the revs much ...

If it is a 30d then they kept the 6sp a little longer.  40d got it first.

Yep, t'is indeed a 30d. I would have gone for an LCI car (or a 40d I suppose) but the budget wouldn't stretch that far.

Re: e70 x5 advice

Just FWIW my car is a 2010 E70, pre facelift but has CIC I-drive etc. but 6-sp gearbox (which is ok but probably not as good as the 8-sp). Must have been just on the change over, built Feb 2010.

Re: Swirl Flaps Removed

I guess I decided to do the change just to remove any possible doubt. Mine's a '10 plate so has the later version but they are still held to the actuator shafts with teeny-tiny screws. I haven't had a close look at them yet but all parts were present and correct. I took the chance to have a look in ...

Re: Swirl Flaps Removed

Sneaky little devils aren't they. It'll be sitting somewhere laughing at me. Anyway, it can't have been eaten by the motor. I'm pretty sure it would have caused some problem or other. If I get the chance I'll take the undertrays off and see if its anywhere to be seen. If it was anywhere down there ...

Swirl Flaps Removed

Well, I bought the blanking plates from PWM along with new rubber gaskets for the ports. Superb service by the way. For those that haven't done it, it is a really doable DIY job. My only problem came when I got the manifold onto the bench and noticed that a small part had gone missing. It was a ...

Re: How many phones

Up until recently I've had to have two phones on me and while it's fine to "pair" multiple phones to the car I'm fairly sure only one can "connect" to the car at any one time. I await other experts to correct me if I'm wrong.

Must be after Feb then. Mines a Feb '10 build date and has the 6-speed. Not that I mind TBH.

Re: Winter Wheel Change

Scored a set of OE 19" winter wheels and tyres (Bridgestone Blizzak RFTs with 6mm tread still remaining) off fleabay for £400 :) :). Went to collect them today and fitted them this afternoon. Not as nice looking as my staggered 20" (especially at the rear) and a bit noisier on the road but overall ...

Re: Westfalia Tow Bars

FWIW I've just had a look at mine and it has "Westfalia" and a series of ident stuff on there but no "BMW". I can't say wether it was OE fitment or not (was on the car when I bought it August last year). BTW, does yours sometimes think there's a trailer attached, when there isn't, and disable the ...

Re: MODS PLEASE STICKY : WARNING - BMW THEFTS - WITH FOB KEYS

Ok, so it turns out the update was done last year when this issue first came to light. Presumably, BMW UK indicated my car needed to be done based purely on its build date and the person on the hotline number didn't have immediate access to a specific record of whether the update had already been ...

Yeah, that's probably favourite. Working for myself makes it a bit tricky to find the time sometimes but it has to be done. I'll get on the blower as soon as I can.

Re: MODS PLEASE STICKY : WARNING - BMW THEFTS - WITH FOB KEYS

I gave BMW a ring on the number given on Watchdog to check my cars status. Turns out it is affected (not surprising, given it's a Feb 2010 build) and hasn't been updated. They promised to get back to me with arrangements within 5 working days. Surprise, surprise, nothing yet >:(. Might just bypass ...
