When I bought it on the way home I noticed once warm the change from 1-2 was like a bumpy/jerky

It was in and out the dealer numerous times, reset, serviced, new torque converter, and then I got fed up took it to an auto box specialist who said it was one or two of the numerous clutches in the box ...

Id have diesel every time if it was my car.

They drive better day to day driving, Tow better, and my 40d returns 25mpg, and 32 upwards on a run

Ive had lots of v8 4x4's and 13-15mpg is the normal knocking around, decent on a run upto 25 but thats being easy at 70mpg on cruise, 22 is more realistic ...
