Re: Independent Garage Suspects Vanos failure

Even I'm gutted to hear that this 84k machine may end up getting sold in bits. Such a pity cos it could probably be fixed for under £400 if you didn't count labour.

Unfortunately i have been told around £1300 for parts for guides? am i missing something here?

Re: Independent Garage Suspects Vanos failure

As much as I love the car I think this time it's just too much to spend repairing for me.  Will put her up for sale and hope someone with the skill and time purchases her and brings her back to life. Gutted.

Re: Independent Garage Suspects Vanos failure

does anybody think it would be worth while trying a replacement vanos solenoid or changing both?  would this cause knock if they had failed.  also stalled at low revs on way to garage, but didn't drive too bad when above 1000rpm, assume slack taken up at this point.

Re: ABS ECU Module

will probably lean towards the cautious side, where its parked would need moving under its own power so would still be driving it to a trailerable location. Dan, makes sense that it would fail "safe" in a sense, but i have physically removed the abs module form the abs pump exposing parts of it ...

Re: ABS Module Failure?

Abs module now refitted and re MOT'd this afternoon. All is well and I am back in my car again, I have missed her over the past week.  I have been driving my wife's Astra and so glad to be back in the X5.  We need to get rid of the Astra and buy a decent second car. Maybe another X5!

Re: ABS Module Failure?

Received word from ECUTesting.com today that the module is faulty and repairable, which in a weird way is good news, at least the location of the fault has been determined. Should be in the post at the end of today and hopfully back in my car tomorrow. £240 for test, repair and postal, seems fairly ...
