Re: Have My Glow Plugs Gone South?

It turns out I don't have one of those BERU type glow plug modules on my X5 as it has an M57 engine. Instead I have a 12212246919 relay module located under a cover next to the inner passenger wing up against the bulkhead. It also turns out that the Missus ran the car dry so it was nothing more than ...

Re: Have My Glow Plugs Gone South?

I've just taken my inlet manifold off to get access to the old glow plug controller and I can't find it.
Now I'm confused.  :'(

Re: Have My Glow Plugs Gone South?

I've ordered a module for delivery later this week. I'll probably wait until the weekend now but will update as to if it fixes the problem as soon as I'm done. Re: Have My Glow Plugs Gone South?

That looks like it. I did a search on RealOEM and found the part number 12217801201 which I can see in your picture above.

Re: Have My Glow Plugs Gone South?

Hmm, glow plug controller you say? I have just read similar elsewhere on the web. I didn't realise such a thing existed. I will try and dig out a part number and get one priced up. When you say test the glow plugs with a multi meter do you mean check that they are receiving 12volts when the ignition ...

Have My Glow Plugs Gone South?

Evening All, It's been a while since I posted here last but another X5 related issue has raised its head that requires the advice of the collective E53 experts. Over the past week I have noticed that the beast has taken longer to start, especially when cold and finally belching a puff of black smoke ...

Me personally mate I'd delete this post and talk to Jason.

Going to call Jason in the morning to get it booked back in but he did say he will be on holiday until the 10th Aug so I don't see much progress until after then.

Re: Carbon Buildup

The wheel spin was a one off when I was out with Jasons' Son Dominic when I went to pick the car up and took it for a test drive. The kerb in question was the drop kerb on my drive. If driving up that could have caused possible clutch pack failure then the transmission must be made of the finest ...

Re: Carbon Buildup

Well the elation didn't last long. On the morning of our holiday to North Devon the wife jumped into the car to fill up with diesel and when she returned said that the car wouldn't move when she put it into drive and just sat there for a while just revving as if it were in neutral. We only had the ...

Re: Carbon Buildup

So, I dropped my car off at Jason's 3 weeks ago so he could investigate the ongoing problem with pulling under load and its general reluctance and lack of power. Various systems on the car were tested to investigate whether the lack of power was caused by an engine related system and a number of ...
Torque converter?
Car fixed and back on the drive now and X5Sport you were correct it was the Torque Converter, amongst many other things. That's where my money is. I'll keep you posted.
On the plus side Jason reckons it is quite gutless when pulling away. I have never known any different so if it does get sorted and it is chipped the difference should be night and day.
