Got the sensor today, hopefully having it fitted tonight or in the morning.
I am not confident at all that this will fix it, the entire rear is on it's arse. Also it HUMMMMMMMMMS everytime I start the car (pump blowing) but the rear doesn't move up at all.

Re: Intermittent not cranking bmw x5
Mine is still fine, but I am honestly not sure what the garage did. They said they couldn't find a fault so reset the EWS for the fun of it, and like a miracle it worked. I personally think they knocked something in the autobox when changing the oil. Monty, next time it does it, see if you can wire ...

x5 rear randomly dropped
Well, it's been 2 weeks (75 miles worth) of driving with no major issues apart from the door handle failing, brake lights popping and window failing... so all good for a change Came out of the house 20 minutes after driving and the back end has dropped to the floor, great! it says "self level ...

Re: Intermittent not cranking bmw x5
It's been 5 days this this EWS reload... and it HASN'T played up YET.. could this be the fix? I'm dreading it not starting now as I'm just beginning to gain a tiny amount of confidence that it's fixed :xmaskiss:

Re: Intermittent not cranking bmw x5
Will you keep throwing money at parts and stuff if I keep making suggestions ? It may well be the transmission inhibitor causing the issue as you suspect and as others suggest . One other cause I can think of is the battery safety terminal .Worth digging around the internet for ...

Re: Sat Nav works when it feels like it
First and easiest check to do is to look at the disc in the Satnav computer to check that it is a genuine BMW disc. If it's a genuine (and undamaged) disc the fault is more likely hardware. If it's not a genuine OEM disc ask a mate with a genuine one to lend you one to try. Some ...

Re: Intermittent not cranking bmw x5
Thanks all, they couldn't see any faults anywhere so have reset the EW something? So hopefully that will work, they've charged me so if it doesn't I'll be straight back down there. My gut feeling is it's the thing inside the transmission as mentioned here.. but fingers crossed

Re: Intermittent not cranking bmw x5
There are similar stories on some bmw forums . Usual fix is to re-syncronise dde (ecu) and ews ( immobiliser )with the key using coding software .Or something to that effect .
Do you have a link so I can read them? the fact it only started happening after the transmission ...

Re: Intermittent not cranking bmw x5
Update from garage, they need more time but he said something about immobilizer and starter inhibitor?? History on this.. The car NEVER did this before, ever. I had a full service at the garage, still was fine. This only happened since they changed the transmission oil, they seem fair at the garage ...

Re: Intermittent not cranking bmw x5
If the car is not correctly reading the lever in a non-drive gear (P or N) then that would inhibit the starter. But the different gear should show on the dash too and from what you describe that does not match what you see. Might be worth getting the gear lever position sensor ...

Re: Intermittent not cranking bmw x5
*UPDATE* It is NOT the ignition switch. It's been tested again both when the car starts and when it doesn't and it's chucking out volts either way. Also, I've noticed something. When the car is starting fine from the key, with the engine off.. if you move the gear selector up and down it makes click ...

Ours did something similar, it was the small blue injector relay under the bonnet near the ecu. A few quid from BMW to fix. A fault reader gave us a clue.

Oh, interesting. Did it come up with a fault beep or did you only find out when plugging it in
