Re: Replacing the battery ..... Easy ?
The car has been back to the dealers again for more diagnosis and no faults were found, the batter is under a year old but the car had been in to have a new gear control unit fitted and they said it was left open with the ignition on when that was done, it went on a battery tender overnight and ...

Re: Replacing the battery ..... Easy ?
Just done some reading on it now and from what I can gather if the battery is of the same spec then it only needs to be registered in order to reset the timer on how long it's been fitted. If it's a different battery then it needs coding too.
I shall see what the car decides to do in the morning.

Re: Replacing the battery ..... Easy ?
Thanks for the information so far guys. As said the car is on charge tonight so I'll see what the crack is in the morning.
It seems totally ridiculous to need coding for a battery, if the new one to be fitted is of the same spec then how can it be necessary ?
Thanks

Re: Replacing the battery ..... Easy ?
Thanks for the reply. I've left it on a trickle charge tonight so I'll see what the situation is in the morning. The car has been standing for about a fortnight and has just been into sytner for a repair so I imagine it probably had the doors left open there. Is the dis software available to buy and ...

Replacing the battery ..... Easy ?
Afternoon chaps. So the car has started telling me there is an increased battery drain (I think that was the wording) and losing its clock setting ? The dealer has said to charge it overnight but the car has been driven and starts perfectly so I can't see that helping to be honest. I suspect the ...

Re: Gear selector fault advice ?
6 speed.
Done some research and I'm 99% sure it should be locked in the P position until both the brake and lock switch are pressed so I'm suspecting either a switch fault or a stuck lock actuator in the gear selector unit itself.
Never had this problem in my '77 mgb !

Re: Gear selector fault advice ?
That's interesting, on mine I only have to press it to get into reverse ? I can get into drive by just pressing the brake and tapping the stalk back.

Re: Gear selector fault advice ?
It's an odd one, this is the first E70 I've had so this May be a daft question, are you supposed to have to press the button on the side to take it out of park or is it just to engage reverse (how the cars working now)
Thanks

Car is in park, go to reverse then drive, all ok, neutral then drive, all ok, park then drive with the reverse lockout button pressed, all ok, BUT go from park to drive just by tapping the selector back and it pings a fault ...

Re: Quick scanner question
I've attempted to read and understand all of that but it gets bloody complicated ! I have the webasto layout what only has the 1 electric valve unit to split water to the matrix sides, doesn't seem to be the one to close off the water to the engine. From what I've read though the fault on X5 ALN's ...
