re: the alarm going off. This has just happened to me. going off for no reason. My BMW mechanic buddy checked it and disconnected the bonnet connection and it hasn't gone off since. Just need to order an new switch now 

I have My advice would be to choose wisely. If you can afford it go for one of the brand names. I got one of the cheaper ones on ebay, and I am having "issues" with it.
