What's my Christmas Tree telling me

Having owned my X5 (2005 X5 30d) for a couple of months I decided it was time to change some tyres, do the front discs/pads and carry out a service. All was fine until the next day, when accelerating away from a junction my 4x4 inactive light / ABS / Handbrake light etc all lite up on the dash ...

Re: 4.6iS query

This gets more depressing as I go along. My wife is determined for us to own an X5, but every-time I post something up or read something the more terrified I am at the prospect of owning one. I spoke to my wife this avo after the test drive and mentioned the fact that did we really need a car that ...

Re: 4.6iS query

History is a mix of BMW and Indy, only 1 overdue service and last done 7k ago. No mention of tensioners but motor sounded sweet from cold and stayed quiet at temp.

4.6iS query

Need some help from the 4.6 owners out there. I took a 4.6 out for a test drive today, love the power /sound etc but have a query about the lights around the Rev counter. When the car was cold all the lights were illuminated and after 3-4miles they started to go off. I only drove the car approx ...

Re: 3.0d performance after remap?

[quote="Imy"] For what its worth my LPG gives me slightly better figures than diesel, and im a heavy footed driver! On petrol around town i average around 17 miles per gallon (London start stop) and on the motorway i average around 23 miles per gallon on motorway (Fast lane all the way!) and i top ...

Re: 3.0d performance after remap?

[quote="Horizon"] Ive read up on the initial plume of smoke on start up, it is because the engine management system overfuels the car on start up, kind of automatic choke, hence the car will fire up without the need to wait for the glow plugs to warm up.This is the reason for the smoke, not valve ...

Re: 3.0d performance after remap?

Thanks for the input so far guys. We took a facelift 3.0d out today and I'm happy with the torque etc and driveability, though the big plume of blue smoke on start up was somewhat alarming.....I don't remember my E39 3.0d ever doing anything lke that....thoughts?

Re: 3.0d performance after remap?

[quote="Sanj"] I have one, diesel. Goes really well, great 'driveability' if that makes sense. Great gear change and smooth progress! Love the performance (torque) and the fuel economy is nice too (knowing its the best the X range can give me), oh and 26 town, 36 motorway (depending on load). Try ...

3.0d performance after remap?

I'm in this dilemma as to whether to buy an LPG 4.4 or whether to get 3litre diesel and have it remapped. Having owned a e39 3.0d touring I loved the performance after it was mapped from 184 to 218bhp, but what equally impressed me was the fuel consumption. I really want to make the right choice car ...

Re: x5 Dilemma.....Diesel or LPG

[quote="Horizon"] I would monitor this site in the Buy or sell section. Some pre loved motors. You get what you pay for most of the time. All advertised X5's are on the market for a reason, mainly because they are costing the owner more than they are worth.!!!! I have a 3.0 D face lift and love it ...

Re: x5 Dilemma.....Diesel or LPG

Thanks so far guys. I'm inclined to go with one that's already been converte, I'm not finding them at £1.5k-2k cheaper. Problem for me is that I know I'm expecting a lot from the deal and I'm a real stickler for the history being complete when the dealer says FSH......sadly i'm finding holes in the ...

Re: x5 Dilemma.....Diesel or LPG

[quote="Raj"]
Keep an eye out for a possible 4.6 then. Is the budget inclusive of the LPG?

We are trying to have cake and eat it.......'yep' including lpg.....we can but hope :)
