I’ve had similar problems before and it was a sticky brake caliper (my brake pads had been recently changed).
Easy to check - just feel the wheels (or brake discs, if you’re brave!) for excess heat one side after a long drive.

Re: Warning lights ?
Before you go and buy more scanners, please see this post: https://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=17175&p=162114#p162114 It does sound like you may need to replace the plastic cog in the transfer actuator. The biggest giveaway is listening for the clicking noise (comes from under the car ...

Re: Battery
My car gets left at the airport frequently and I bought a lithium ion car jump starter power bank from Amazon. Cost around £60 and will start up to 6.0l diesel (allegedly - haven’t needed to try it yet). Is fairly light and portable and easily fits in the rear side compartment (would easily fit in th ...

Re: Testing and Diagnosing the E53 Webasto Thermo Top C/Z
It’s some time since I did it, but try looking at my write-up here from a few years ago:

Yes - 12V to pin 1 should fire up the Webasto if there are no faults.

Mot fail - engine MIL inoperative
I’m hoping this post will save someone some aggro: My 2005 3.0d X5 failed its annual MOT because the tester said the engine MIL was inoperative - the MIL doesn't light up when the ignition is turned on before starting the engine. It turns out that the car is designed like that (many thanks go to R ...

Re: Old member - new 4.8is
A couple of tips for your problems: 1. Have you got speed camera warnings on your satnav menu? If you have you may have turned them off - turn them back on and it should go back to English. 2. Poor radio reception - my car suffers from this when I turn on the heated rear window. All is fine when it ...

Re: Trio of warning lights (ABS, 4x4, Brake) - transfer case gear replacement?
By strange coincidence I have just had exactly the same problem (including clicking noise) and have replaced the plastic cog - all is now perfect :) Some tips and words of advice: If you have this problem, get it sorted ASAP because if you ignore it then you run the risk of burning out the motor in ...

Re: Wanted - Intravee
If anyone has a spare AI-NET cable for connecting the intravee to the KCL-420i unit I'd be interested in buying it (short preferably, but would also consider a long one). They seem to be out of stock on the toysinyourcar website.

Toyo Proxes get my vote too. Great grip and much quieter than my previous Atturo AZ800 tyres.

Re: Testing and Diagnosing the E53 Webasto Thermo Top C/Z
Further to my post above about activating the Webasto using a remote control unit, I have now managed to add Aux Heater as an option on the centre console menu of my X5. To do this I used the BMW 1.4.0 Scanner Software from www.xcar360.com (took a couple of weeks to arrive from Hong Kong). Easy ...

Re: Testing and Diagnosing the E53 Webasto Thermo Top C/Z
Hi All, I only discovered a couple of months ago that my facelift 3.0D X5 had a Webasto heater fitted and thanks to this forum it's now up and running (after some frustration!). Here is the story: 1. Applied 12V to pin 1 of heater and it made all the right noises and fired up for a couple of minutes ...
