Re: BMW Extended Warranty...Should I bother

I just extended mine for £990 and £100 excess. It was £1340 (I think for no excess). It was a no brainier when I was told the cover is exactly the same. I'd have to make at least 3 claims in a year to hit the no excess option so went with the £990. With roadside assistance included seemed like a goo ...

Re: I-Drive Crashing

Mine is going in for the 2nd time tomorrow. It hasn't happened in over a year and then suddenly at the weekend the screen went red and off everything went. Screen blank. We happened to be near our local dealer where we bought the car new 2 years ago. I showed the salesman the problem and he booked ...

Re: My X5 is making oil!

So, they tested the oil and it had no water or fuel in it. I was told the sensors are a bit twitchy and the oil level was slightly above max and that's what tripped the amber warning. They drained some and it's gone back to green. I don't understand how the oil level can go up as it was green for ...

Re: My X5 is making oil!

So, top marks to my local dealer already. The salesman lives a couple of roads away from me so is picking my X5 up tomorrow and bringing it back later. Fingers crossed the service boffins are as good!

Re: My X5 is making oil!

Well, I'm shipping it into the dealer on Tuesday so I will let you all know what they say! It will be my first experience of BMW after sales service so should be interesting to compare with the last 12 years of Lexus ownership beforehand :-)

My X5 is making oil!

Hi All, My 2012 X5 40d arrived with the oil level indicator showing green. It's had no oil added at all but is now 15 months old (with 10k miles of mixed driving) and the oil level has been very slowly rising for months (on the dipstick) until the level indicator went yellow! I've booked into the ...

Newbie plus some advice please

I should add that I used to get 17.5 mpg out of my 3.5 litre V6 petrol RX so am as happy as Larry with the X5's consumption even though I understand people think its poor - it depends what you're coming from :-)

Newbie plus some advice please

I see 25mpg in winter and 27mpg in summer from my 2012 40d. It's mostly town mileage though. I've had 33mpg on a 325 mile motorway run (fully loaded with children, dogs and a roof box!)

New E70 - scratched a wheel!

Hi All, I've had my new X5 40d msport since 1st March and have just lightly scraped the n/s front wheel on a kerb. I did 50k in my last car and never so much as scuffed a wheel - and I've done one within 500 miles in this car! Very frustrating... The scratches are really small and I'm wondering if I ...

Re: Thule bar feet

I picked up my new 40d msport with the rails on the 1st. I posted the same query on here a while ago as I also need to fit a Thule roof box. Here are the details I was given:

You need the Thule 869 Aerobars, 4003 fitting kit and 753 footpack.

Re: Roof rack loads for panoramic roof?

I made a trip into Halfords today. I already have the 861 aero bars on my Lexus so was hoping to get away with just the footpack and fitting kit at £105. The guy wasn't sure how much longer the 869 bars are versus the 861. I know the X5 is 8cm wider than the Lexus so he recommended waiting until I c ...

Re: Roof rack loads for panoramic roof?

Does anyone know what the 'foot' type is for connecting to the car rails? I bought my Thule and aerobars etc from Halfords for my existing Lexus RX350. I'm making the assumption that the aerobars will be wide enough to fit my new X5 when it arrives in March. However, I'm assuming that I will need ...
