Sounds very similar , first problem I had was when the tailgate would not close , about 3 weeks later it would not open , it was the latch .

What you are describing sounds very similar to the fault I had except my x5 has the powered tailgate. The problem was fixed by fitting a new latch , part was about £50 , I don't think my one being powered would matter as the latch looks like any latch on any car . The ecu wasnt getting the correct ...

I have been looking for second hand but nothing for sale at present, I'm not in too much of hurry just now but want to have something to fall back on. The rails on my car are flush with the roof with a recess on the inside edge , I'm presuming bars are available for these and not just the raised ...

Has anybody bought a set of these ? if so are they any good ? I intend to use them for a roof box.

Problem now solved, as was mentioned earlier the catches on the lower section were the cause, I picked up some anti rattle felt tape from ebay and applied it around each catch, the lower section is slightly firmer to close but no creaks any more !

OK, Thanks for the replies , I've purchased some felt tape and will tackle it this weekend, the tailgate does seem to be the source of noise. 

I have a creaking from somewhere in the rear of my 2009 X5 4.8, it's done 40K with full main dealer history , sounds like it is around the tailgate area / interior trim but is hard to tell exactly . It's got the 7 seat option if that makes any difference.
Is there any known fixes / faults?

Anyone know if it possible to retro fit a reverse assist camera without too much hassle ? looking at a car which has all the spec I want except this.

Hi, I have seen that advert already, you really do seem to get a hell of alot of car for your money, the 4.8's generally seem to be higher spec it's just the MPG that concerns me and that the diesel may be a bit dull (slow).
